I read that Christmas markets in Strasbourg are closing on the 24th of December. What about arriving in the city after the 24th of December? Does it make any sense? Will the decorations still be there?
My daughter and I will be in Paris from the 23rd of December until the 2nd of January, and thought a side trip to Strasburg would be fun. Our primary goal was to see the Christmas markets and to visit the region from which my family comes, however if the markets will all be down immediately after Christmas, I think we'll just stay in Paris. Any thoughts?
The point of a Christmas market is to have a place where people can buy the things they need for Christmas. Food, gifts, decorations etc. So there is really no point for them to stay open after Christmas.
But Strasbourg is a charming place, even when there are no Christmas markets.
I believe that the Colmar markets reopen for a few days after Christmas. Do double-check.
Strasbourg will still be beautifully decorated. But I would stay in Colmar, where the markets will still be open. Take the train (30 minutes) to Strasbourg to see the gorgeous light displays in the evening. Alsace has a fabulous site about the markets in the area: https://www.christmas.alsace/must-see-christmas-markets/
I arrived the 24th last year and was not disappointed. The decorations are beautiful..
Though the crowds are still there.
