Is it easy to get into Strasbourg if we stay in a town outside for a cheaper rate and an additional relaxed feel. I worry that it’ll be tough to get into town and park. I see many trains/trams that take 40 minutes.
Thanks!

It might be a long shot but Kehl Germany is a tram ride away fro m Strasbourg. Right over the Rhine. The Strasbourg tram terminates there. Kehl downtown area is small & quiet. I don't know how many (if any) hotel rooms are there. Air BnB?
If you reconsider the notion of staying outside central Strasbourg, we stayed at Hôtel Beaucour a few years ago in mid-December and it was very restful and comfortable. Good location for viewing the markets and hitting up some pretty good restaurants.
I used the P&R Robertsau Boecklin near the Orangerie, a short bus ride or about a thirty minute walk to the Cathedral from there. Molsheim, Selestat and Obernai are decent enough places to stay, all about twenty to thirty minutes by train. Barr (charming) add ten minutes. Selestat is a touch closer to the famous wine villages further south.
Thanks for the suggestions. We have three boys (18, 17, and 10) so it’s challenging to find rooms. Most online sources show rooms at 4 people max when many rooms will actually allow 5. It’s been fun for years figuring this out on our wanderings through Europe.
If you are talking about this year then you may be a touch late, but try apartment rentals. Start here:

Some towns and villages have their own websites, or will be part of a district website, and list accommodations by hotels and apartments (gites). Barr, for example: https://www.paysdebarr.fr/visiter/
