Strasbourg and Paris Rue Cler area hotel recommendations.

Planning a weeklong December trip with my daughter to see the Strasbourg Christmas Market and then Paris. We’ve both been to France before, RS tours and independently. It’s been over 10 years since I’ve stayed in a couple of Rue Cler hotels. I’ve read the RS France guidebook and perused some hotel websites. Now looking for current hotel recommendations for Strasbourg and Paris Rue Cler area based on your personal experiences. Ty!!

For hotel recommendations to be meaningful, please give your budget window per night in euros. I am not a particular fan of the rue Cler area. It is not as central as other options and is not as well served by public transportation. Consider St Germain des Prés, the Marais, or the Latin Quarter.

Many years ago in Strasbourg we stayed in the Hotel Cathedral with a window that opened to a view of the Cathedral fascade -- loved it. Not fancy place or fancy room but I will always take an amazing view first.

In Paris, get a place more central and with better transport options -- Marais or Latin Quarter or St Germain. Hotel Muguet is often recommended by people who like the Eiffel Tower area but I haven't stayed there. We stayed at Grande Hotel Leveque. decades ago on Steve's rec and it was the worst hotel we have had in France, but that was probably 20 years ago and I am sure it has been renovated and is much better now. But still would want to be central and not in this less convenient area.

Check out the Hotel de l’Empereur in the 7th in Paris. It was recommended by someone here on the Forum. We’ve stayed there 5 times and are booked there for our next trip. It’s nice, clean, across the street from Napoleon’s Tomb and 5 minutes from Rue Cler.

Stay where you want to stay. There are many good options and you shouldn’t be made to feel bad if you choose an area that is different than someone else’s favorite.

Rue Cler is great, so are some of the other areas. Pick what you want and have a good trip.

Steves obviously thought -- okay what is quintessentially Paris to Americans -- Eiffel Tower -- market streets -- and so picked Rue Cler as an example located near where American think is a good place to be. Lots of Americans want to be near the Eiffel Tower until they discover how inconvenient it is. Rue Cler is an okay market street among many many lovely market streets in Paris.

We like Hotel Beaugency in the Rue Cler. It's a modest hotel but great location and the staff are great. We've stayed there twice but it's been since 2019 since we were last there.

Rick started going to Europe a LONG time ago and fondly remembers the first places he fell in love with. I think Rue Cler falls into this category. From what I've seen and experienced, it isn't all that unique or special, it's just the street that he loves. So it's not good, or bad.

Thx everyone for your input. I probably wasn’t specific enuf in my post as I only wanted recs for Rue Cler hotels for a reason. I’ve been going to Paris since the mid 60s and have stayed in hotels in the Marais, Left Bank, near Arc de T etc, and in Rue Cler area after a couple of RS tours in the early 90s. I also stayed in a Rue Cler hotel with my daughter about 15 years ago and she would like to stay there for this trip. We’ve seen most of the tourist sights .. just want to enjoy Paris together and a few day trips, to see cathedrals in Chartres and Amiens. Again, merci beaucoup!

Susan you were very specific. There are just people who can’t help themselves when it comes to giving suggestions. All of it given with the kindest of intentions.

I stayed at the Hotel Beaugency this April, my second stay. I like the location. Nice staff, elevator is tiny but effective. I didn’t have breakfast at the hotel this trip. Enjoy!

Yes the elevator at Hotel Beaugency is tiny - we put of luggage in the elevator and ran up the stairs to our floor the first trip - we are better packers now so one of us was in the elevator with the luggage.
susantaylor28 let us know what you choose!

I understand you love of staying in the Rue Cler, my wife is the same way, loves the relative quiet in that area.

Was just in Strasbourg and Colmar this spring, after agonizing on which city to stay. We ended up in Colmar and loved it, our day trip to Strasbourg confirmed we made the right choice, didn’t stay past noon, left to find something else.

We stayed for 6 nights at the Cler Hotel on Rue Cler in 2019. We were very happy with our stay. Comfy and quiet room, nice staff, good breakfast, very clean.

Another big vote for Relais Bosquet. Conveniently located, great staff, and really nice rooms. In Strasbourg we like the Best Western Plus Monopole Metropole or Hotel Arok.
