Strasbourg/Alsace day tripping

Hey friends!
Looking for advice & opinions.
We have 4 nights, 3.5 days in Strasbourg this June.

I’m so on the fence about renting a car, because it really does stress me out, and this is supposed to be fun! But we definitely want to see Colmar and the wine villages.

Has anyone done the KUTZIG buses in the summer? Just worried it will be overcrowded and hard to manage.

I could rent a car two days, and easily see all the villages.

Or we could train to Colmar and do KUTZIG bus.
Next day train again to Colmar and rent e-bikes and go to Equisheim which I gather is maybe 5 miles. Has anyone done the e-bikes from Colmar?

Would love any recommendations for things to see and places to eat in Strasbourg.

Thank you!

On an upcoming trip we’re staying in Colmar and will have a rental car. One of our day trips will be to Riquewihr then walking to Hunawihr and Ribeauvillé, then walking back (about 2 hours total time without stops for pastries or wine.) You could do it in reverse and should be able to get there by bus. We also have the villages of Saverne, Barr, Obernai, and Bouxwiller on the to visit list.

Ongonos, that sounds like an amazing trip!
I don’t think we can handle all that hiking, but how wonderful to come upon those castles.

The Strasbourg area Route du Vin by car is one of the best short drives in Europe.

A must see.

This is an easy drive with no traffic and fantastic villages to explore.

Make sure your car comes with GPS. You can use your phone but using GPS consumes Cellular Data which you have to pay roaming rates for.

One small tip is that some villages reserve the best parking for locals only. There will be signs that show the no parking symbol but add “ Sauf …”. Sauf means Except in English.
