Storing bags in Avignon near TGV or Europcar

We are taking TGV from Paris to Avignon and want to spend a bit of time in Avignon before picking up our rental car at Europcar and heading to our base in St. Remy.

Apparently TGV does not have bag storage but the Central train station does. Is this correct? (I know I have seen this referred to in this forum, but unfortunately can't find the post; also, I remember there was conflicting info.)

According to Googlemaps, it's a bit of a hike to central train station (17 minutes by car). Is there a closer bag storage to TGV? Although I suppose since we want to go to town center, it might be just as well to take a bus or taxi, with our bags, and store in Central station then walk around...

Also, someone suggested renting the car first and locking the bags in it. But will Europcar let us leave the car there for awhile? And will there be any concern about safety of bags locked in the car?

Thank you all,
Rachel

There are trains between Avignon TGV and Avignon Centre. Why would you take a taxi?

If you go to the official list of services at Avignon Centre, the 4th item down is about luggage storage. https://www.gares-sncf.com/fr/gare/fraes/avignon-centre/services

It says

CONSIGNES MANUELLES

La Consigne

BAGAGES

à 4 min à pied de la gare: 3 avenue Maréchal de Lattre de Tassigny - 84000 Avignon which means La Consigne is 4 minutes walk from the station at the mentioned address.

Following that link for detail https://www.gares-sncf.com/fr/gare/fraes/avignon-centre/services/consigne you can see

that they will provide you a locker or lockers, and if you click again you get https://consigne-avignon.com/ which also gives you the choice of storing the bags with a person. Click on the flag in upper right and change it to English, everything is laid out for you.

For the lockers

TARIFS
1h: 2€ - 2h: 3€ - 5h: 5€ - journée (24h) : 12€ - Plusieurs jours : 9€/jour - location de poussettes 8€/j fauteuils roulants 12€/j vente de parapluie 10€

and scroll down and for additional fees they will take your luggage to your nearby hotel or the TGV station.

Any questions?

Nigel,
Thank you for the very detailed and complete information. Very helpful.

My only other question is, would it be better to rent the car from Central Station, rather than taking the train to and fro? Or is driving out of Arles more difficult (re traffic) than driving out from the TGV Station? We are headed to St. Remy.

Thanks again.

You just said "Arles" above, but I'm sticking with Avignon. No, it's not hard to drive out of the city from Avignon Centre rail station. Just get straight onto the main roads (which show yellow on Google Maps), which should move a little faster and have better onward signage than the smaller roads.

Yes, Laura, I meant Avignon! Keep getting those "A" towns confused...thanks for the response, good to know. Now I need to see if there is a rental car place near Central Station....
