Stops from Bordeaux to Lyon

Hello, My wife and I will be travelling through France in March for our honeymoon. We have 9 days to travel from Bordeaux to Lyon. Can I please get recommendations of towns to stop along the way? We will be driving. We don't really want to go to big cities. We both love nice food and to go for hikes. Some nice places to stay at would also be very helpful.

Thank you :)

Sarlat is a very nice medieval town with good restaurants in the Dordogne region. There is a cro-magnum museum nearby in Les Eyzies de Tayac & interesting landscape. And of course there’s St Emilion close to Bordeaux.

I was just in Bordeaux last month coming back from visiting Sarlat. If you visit Sarlat include a trip to La Roque Gageac it is a 15 minute drive from Sarlat; about 5 minute drive west of La Roque Gageac is the gardens at Château de Marqueyssac, worth a visit. Also I like Montignac; it is north of Sarlat on your way to Lyon; most travelers stop there on the way to visit the cave Lascaux 2.
