After 2 days in Chamonix, we will load up the rental car and head to Beaune. It's only 3.5hr ride, so we have for detours and don't want to miss any must see items or great restaurants for lunch. Interesting chateau's are also of interest. Your suggestions are appreciated!

Most people would stop at Annecy, touristy but very cute. In Rick's France 2020 guidebook, also see the section "Between Burgundy and Lyon," starting on p. 919, which describes Brancion, Chapaize, Cluny, and Taize. The wine region starting from Chagny is another section with driving route described.
