Stops between Bruges and Honfleur

We are planning on driving from Bruges to Honfleur and then on to Bayeux for the D-Day beaches in September. A few questions:

  1. Where is the best place to pick up a car? I've read Lille is a good option.
  2. Where are some good places to stop on the way? We do not have a settled route in mind.
  3. Are there any good hikes in this area?

“Good places to stop” completely depends on your interests.

The two historic main squares of Arras, Amiens cathedral Notre-Dame and Rouen are interesting places for a stop. North of Arras you can visit the Canadian WOI memorial Vimy Ridge and nearby French WOI cemetery Notre-Dame de Lorette.

Making a detour to Saint-Omer (80km north-west of Arras) you can visit the former V2 bases La Coupole and (nearby Éperlecques) Blockhaus, being part of the Atlantikwall.

To my opinion nice places for hikes/walking are the cliffs along the Atlantic Coast between the Somme and Seine estuaries. I liked walking the route north of Étretat.
