Hello everyone!
We will be driving from Avignon (well, Remoulins, actually) to Carcassonne next July. We are following Rick's advice and are planning to arrive in Carcassonne in order to see the castle in the late afternoon. Since the drive is supposed to only take a couple of hours, we are hoping to choose one or two stops on the way. Does anyone have a suggestion to help us narrow it down? Thanks so much!

Minerve - 30-ish minutes to the northeast of Carcassonne is charming - Google the images. Also some Cathar history there. Makes a great stop for lunch, coffee, etc. It's on the way to Carcassonne, wouldn't really be a detour.
+1 for Minerve. It would be a good lunch stop, but do have some cassolet for dinner in Carcassone.

Carcassonne Guesthouse is a great B&B with a patio view of La Cite'. Very nice place to stay with a helpful owner. I assume you will have already been to Pont du Gard and the Nimes arena and Temple. If not they are great stops.
