Hello! We were thinking of using a B&B in Roissy as an alternative to staying in Paris. Can anyone advise as to whether this is practical in terms of getting back and forth? Thanks!
Terrible idea ! You will have have roughly a one hour commute each way to and from central Paris and a cost of 20 EU per person on the RER B train service per round trip .
Terrible idea. Ugly area. Long commute. Expensive commute. If you are going to Paris, half the joy of being in Paris is being in Paris. The only reason to every stay that far out is if you have an early flight -- and then you stay AT the airport and not NEAR the airport. There are several hotels right at the airport where you can catch the internal shuttle to your terminal.
Roissy sure the heck isn't ugly, in fact it's a pretty tidy suburb. There's plenty of good places to eat on everwhat the parallel road is to the west of hotel row.
The transportation logistics were not adequately stated, however.
There is no RER station in the ville, you have to make your way over to the airport to catch a train. This is a half-hour project unless you hop one of the hotel shuttles - - I don't know what the protocol of doing this would be since you're not using the hotels, but it'd bother me. Alternatively, there's an infrequent bus that takes about an hour - - I've only ridden it once and it was a long time ago - - the details are long-forgotten.
Thank you very much everyone - it seems that this idea isn't as practical as I thought. I was comparing it to London Heathrow, where we stayed near the airport and took the subway into downtown for the day...
If anyone has an idea about a good budget hotel in Paris, I would appreciate it. I've looked at many of the RS recommendations, but we are travelling with 3 adults, and this definitely narrows the choices and raises the prices!!
Thanks again!
