What is the best way to get to Normandy for a day trip? Rent a car or take a train?

Do you have something(s) in particular that you want to see in Normandy? I.e. D-Day beaches or Honfleur or Deauville or the Pays de l'Auge (heart of the Norman countryside with dairy cows, apple trees, and half- timber houses?)?

All of this sounds great! I haven’t really researched a lot of this yet. But would like to do both of these. But I want to return to Paris for the night. We plan to leave early in the morning 7am.

Also, is there any ticket that I should pre-purchase for the d-day beaches, museums, etc. or can this all be purchased when we arrive there?
I purchased the Rickes Steve’s France book, but haven’t had time to read it yet. Need to do that...
