Hello! My cousin & I will be staying in Paris for 1 week in September. This is our first trip to Paris (we are so excited!!). I found a lovely AirBnB in the 14 Arr, however I'm wondering if this is too far out of the way? We are looking to stay in a less touristy area, however we still want to experience all of Paris. I will be briefly attending a conference at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles (15 Arr) while we are there as well. Thoughts? Advice? Thank you so so much!! Looking to get this booked asap, but need advice! :)
The 14th is a big arrondissment and a great place to stay in my view. September is the busiest hotel month of the year, I would not wait any longer to book accommodations.
It is less touristy. You just have to take the bus or metro to go to all the tourist sites.
Do it! I have stayed in the 14th near Montparnasse Tower a few times. Lots of metro options, and you're also walking distance to many sights. There's a Monoprix to stock up your AirBnB. Lots of creperies. Make a corner cafe your "local" during your stay. Walk through the cemetery.
Wanderlusting has a nice write-up of the neighborhood. Makes me want to go back right now!
Depends where in the 14th (can you specify?) but it will be quite convenient for sightseeing still, and very convenient for your conference.
Thanks for the feedback so far, everyone!! The AirBnB is in the neighborhood of Plaisance / Losserand & subway line 13 is right in front of the building. The listing says the Montparnasse cemetary & train station is a 15 min walk. Does this sound okay?
Also!! Does anyone have any itinerary suggestions or some fun ideas for things that are a bit off the beaten path?
Are the catacombs worth it? Bike tour? Sunset river cruise? Cooking class? We're up for anything!!
Hello - we stayed in the 14thA a couple of years ago and loved the neighbourhoods. Our apartment was a 2 min walk from the Catacombs. Great area. Rue Daguerre is a market street with amazing shops and restaurants. It's a typical Parisian neighbourhood with folks going about their day. We were very close to Denfert-Rochereau station which is on the RER line and Metro - very convenient - 10 minutes to many big sites.
Check out this thread.
Rue Raymond Losserand is also a nice street full of food shops, I like the area. Especially closer to Pernety station; near Plaisance the architecture is unispiriing (don't be shocked), but it's no big deal.
If the Metro station is "right in front of the building" I would be worried about noise and vibration from the shallow tunnel, which might be directly under the building.
