A friend loved this town, and we're considering staying overnight on our way from Toulouse to Colluire. We will have seen a lot of chateaux, castles, churches. Looking for a pretty little town with a few good restaurants.
I haven't been, but if you go you must know and recite the clever French grammar/spelling mnemonic:
Il y avait une fois
Une marchande de foie
Qui vendait du foie
Dans la ville de Foix.
Elle se dit "Ma foi!
C'est la premiere fois
Que je vende du foie
Dans la ville de Foix!"
Another great small town is Cucugnan. Excellent accommodations and cassoulet at the Logis Auberge du Vigneron. Stop in at the bakery in the base of the mill and grab some cookies for the road.
Also very close to Foix, about 35km, is Mirepoix. Very beautiful old part surrounds the town square.
We really enjoyed Foix…pretty town, good walking, great views from the Cathar castle(sorry). Mirepoix is also charming.
