After booking a non-refundable hotel, I learned les Halles can be dodgey on weekend nights. Is the area otherwise generally safe? I booked that hotel because we have 6 am train to CDG airport and the hotel itself looks beautiful.
Les Halles' dodginess is a thing of the past. It really is; Les Halles' renovation in the 2010s successfully weeded out dodgy characters - basically by removing all the nooks and crannies where people could hide.
Still, I wouldn't linger in the Nelson Mandela garden at 2AM, but this applies to any park in any big city.
Agree with Balso.
The location is so central, too, for anywhere you will need to visit during your visit.
Thanks - I feel much better about my location.
I was at Hotel Flor Rivoli last year, so around Les Halles a bunch. No issue as a solo female - even used the ATM late one night, no problem.
I wouldn't say they've all disappeared. At night, you'll definitely not want to linger around. Even during the day it's a big hangout for homeless and des voyous. But certainly isn't what it used to be and there are many treasures around there - especially restaurants.
