We're taking the train back from Lyon the day before we return home. Will be taking the TGV right into the CDG station and staying at a hotel at the airport (adjacent to terminal 3 I believe). Any activities at/near the airport that we should check out? Also, any restaurant suggestions? Thanks!
We are at restaurant (in hotel) and just relaxed
You're at the end of your trip, catch your breath, eat at hotel, do your packing, prepare to get up at zero dark thirty. Also allow enough time in your room to log in to your flight and check in. You might be surprised what an ordeal it can be when you're on the road; make sure hotel has excellent wifi and the ability to print out docs if needed (ask at front desk).
We stay at Terminal 2 regularly for our Delta flight home. I always declare we’re going to find something to do at the airport and yet we never do. We always take a walk over to the departures area for Delta, get something to eat at the McDonald’s there. Then we wander downstairs to the train area and look at the various pastries and snack foods. Sometimes we consider eating at the Sheraton itself but we’re too cheap at the end of the trip.
Last time we were there, I researched all the pre-security food options and they are just really lacking.
My favorite activity? Making sure we have a room overlooking one of the runways and watching airplanes.
Not sure which hotel you’re at and whether you have a view, but it’s worth looking into.
We also always declare we’re going to just go into Paris but we’ve never made it yet - we’re always so tired at the end of a trip that the airport is fine with us.
It is probably smarter to relax, especially if you will not have a car. But I am not good at following my own advice, as I like to see as much as possible when I travel. So when we got to the hotel at CDG on our trip in June, we dropped our bags off and took the RER to the Stade de France (25-30 minute train ride) to see France play Croatia. It was one of the highlights of the trip for me.
Assuming there is nothing interesting happening at the stadium when you are there, you could take a taxi from the La Pleine RER station to St. Denis to see the Basilica. But it closes around 5pm so you would have to be there well before that. That seems like a lot of work to me, but St. Denis is one of those sites you have to make an effort to see since it is removed from most of the other major landmarks.
Looking at the map, the Air and Space Museum appears to be a 30 minute bus ride from CDG. But again it closes at 5pm, so you would have to arrive at CDG fairly early to have enough time to get there and enjoy it.
I stayed at the CDG Hilton the last time I was in Paris and the food at the hotel was truly miserable. Next trip I will be staying at the CitizenM whose menu looks interesting to me. There is also a small grocery store in the station where I picked up a lovely muffin and juice for breakfast -- I don't remember what they had that might serve for dinner if you just wanted to relax at your hotel.
Edited to add: I agree with Valerie -- choices are really lacking at the airport.
Best of luck.
We like to pick up local foods , a good loaf of bread , a bottle of wine and eat in our room.
Since the Brasserie Flo closed during Covid, there is nowhere at CDG, in the terminals or at the hotel restaurants, where I would recommend anyone eating. The food at CDG is universally terrible. There are several fast food venues but keep your expectations very low.
