We've selected Beaune as home base for a five-night visit to Burgundy this mid-September.
What we're typically looking for in a home base is having restaurants, shops, etc., within walking distance. Do we need to find accommodations "inside the walls" for this to work in Beaune? If we stayed outside the walls, how hard would it be to drive into the old town and park?
We have only stayed within the walls, twice now. Love Beaune, love walking proximity to everything. But we are more hotel types, not Airbnb customers. Both times we stayed were without a car tho. That might impact your stay. Beaune is lovely!
The majority of non resident parking will be found in lots outside the main core. If you have a particular location in mind, punch it into google maps and see how long it takes to walk to outskirts of the centre. Your idea of a walking distance may well differ to mine.
If your'e thinking of renting an apartment, the main supermarkets will also be outside of the core.
Back in 2017 we stayed at the Best Western Plus au Grand St Jean. Very nice in old town area, short walk to the Hospice and many restaurants nearby. The had on site parking. Currently it is 10 euro per day. Not bad IMO. We were very happy there. Breakfast was fine also. Don't be put off by Best Western name. In Europe that doiesn't mean cookie cutter as it might in the states.
In 2017, my husband and I stayed inside the walls in a wonderful one-bedroom apartment that we reserved through Booking.com. It is called Millesime78 on that site. The owner was extremely helpful and accommodating, and the apartment was very comfortable. It was a short walk to shops and restaurants on both sides of the walls.
We enjoyed staying here on a recent trip. https://www.lacombotte.com/
Earlier we stayed in Beaune.
My take on your question is that finding parking along the ring road is easy. The more challenging part is dining out with wine and then driving to your place afterwards. I would say that’s the biggest problem to staying in Beaune.
