Stay at a hotel near Gare de l'est

Hello,

We are booked to stay in a hotel for 6 nights in the Latin quarter, but I was wondering if I should stay in a hotel near Gare de l'est for the last night of our stay in Paris. We'll be catching a 6:40 train to Munich. I'm not happy about switching hotels, and would prefer not to, but I'm wondering whether that would be better than catching the metro at 5:40?

We'll probably use Saint Michel- Notredame(7 min walk from hotel). Per Google maps, it should take us 18 mins in total.

I have looked at hotels near Gare de l'est, not the best area to stay per TA reviews. But it'll be for just 1 night... Any suggestions?

Why move? Unless I'm missing something, I don't understand why you wouldn't take a taxi to Gare de l'est from your hotel in the Latin quarter. G7 taxis are reliable and can be booked a day or two in advance.

Wouldn't a taxi be best at that time of day? Not much traffic that early in the morning so it shouldn't be too expensive. Your hotel can book one for you the night previous to your departure.

In 2015 we stayed at the Le Citizen Hotel on the Canal St. Martin and absolutely loved it. We walked to the Gare de l'Est and I think it took us less than 18 minutes. We stayed in their cheapest room and it was really small, but well-designed and the service was just wonderful. They emailed us in advance to see if we needed an early check-in, which was huge for us since our flight arrived at 0730. We got to the hotel around 9:00 and our room was ready and waiting for us. I didn't see anything wrong with the area - I always felt safe and I'm something of a coward. You can walk to the Pere La Chaise cemetery.

We previously stayed in the Rue Cler area and I was underwhelmed with that area. If we ever go back to Paris, we will definitely base ourselves at the Le Citizen.

I wasn't sure about the availability of taxis at that time, but I will look up G7 taxis. I guess I'm an over planner, and I tend to worry about minute details, like what if the taxi doesn't show up on time? What if we miss our train to Munich? I drive my husband crazy!

I was referring to the area immediately around Gare de l'est, I was considering staying at the Ibis, and some of the reviews stated the area was "seedy". Probably the same for most train stations.

But thanks for the suggestion for Le citizen hotel, I'll definitely look at it.

You book G7 Taxis the day before you leave. You will receive an SMS from the dispatcher giving the color and make of car that will pick you up. There is a small service charge but you will have peace of mind.
Be ready and waiting outside about 5-10 minutes before scheduled pick up time.

Agree with the others - no reason to go through the hassle of changing hotels. Just book a G7 taxi in advance and zip over to the train station the morning of your train!

I'll make it unanimous. Don't change hotels, and don't take the metro, just book a taxi the day before.

It will probably be 7 minutes door-to-door from the Latin Quater to the Gare de l'Est at that time of morning, the same as walking from the Ibis on rue St. Laurent. Much faster than from the Canal St. Martin.

We used Uber in Paris quite successfully. The Uber app makes it very simple to request a car.

At Gare de l'Est is a Kyriad Hotel if you decide to switch, instead blowing the money on a taxi. The Kyriad is adjacent to the train station, attached to it.

Or it's a straight shot up Bvd. St. Michel and Bvd de Sebastopol on the #38 bus. You'll be there in a flash that early in the morning--in case a 10 euro taxi is extravagant, as suggested above. Or even cheaper, you can walk it in thirty minutes.
