Hi everyone, planning europe trip # 2 we want to go to sardinia, corsica and bonifacio specificlly, What time of year, I am a jacket girl, , what airport to fly in and out of. I know to take ferries, but any ideas on hotels prefer water views, looking for great scenery, good food, nice people, no rent a car. will have 10 to 14 days for this, can add a place or? would like to stay in vicinity if possible less changing of hotels the better, i am somewhat handicapped. thanks to all.
These are both very nice islands, just a few thoughts from me below:
-For time of year- do you mean you want to go in the cooler months? That will impact flight availability as some of the flights to these islands are seasonal and you have more choice in the warmer months.
-If you want to visit both of these places, you can easily fly into one and out of the other. For Sardinia you can fly in/out of either Olbia or Alghero, then get a ferry across to Bonifacio, and fly home from Figari. Sardinia also has an airport at Cagliari but this is further south so will take you more time to get up to the north towards Corsica. Note that most of the Figari flights are seasonal so if you are going in the colder months you might have to get up to Ajaccio to fly home. Some of the ferries may also be seasonal so I would check.
-Getting around Sardinia without a car is tricky. There is public transport but it's quite sparse. It's similarly the case in southern Corsica.
-If you're looking for places to stay in Sardinia, I recommend Alghero. Santa Teresa di Gallura is also very nice but if you're not going for beaches there's less to do there.
Good luck with your planning.
