Spring 2017 trip planning Paris & Frankfurt

We're planning a 2-3 week trip to Paris & Germany (around Frankfurt) for Spring 2017. We've both been to Paris before so we don't plan to do the Eiffel Tower, etc. We will go to Les Invalides because HE is a huge Napoleon enthusiast so any other Napoleonic suggestions would be welcome. I'd like to do a day trip to the Loire chateaux so suggestions for that would also be welcome. We are also open to cultural / musical events (one of my favorite memories is a Vivaldi concert at Ste. Chappelle).

We're planning to rent a vacation apartment while there so we can live like locals. I've stayed in the Marais before and loved it. He would like to be closer to the 7th. I've seen a few options on VRBO but am wondering if anyone could share their experience with that company & offer any suggestions.

We have time to plan so please give us lots of choices! Thanks :)

Fontainebleau would be another Napoleon site HE might want to visit, and you might enjoy too, a day trip from Paris.

You can Google day trips to the Loire, I haven't taken one but there are several choices. Probably best is one that meets the TGV to Tours. Pay attention to whether they actually let you into each chateau or just drive past it. A better plan, if you want to see more than one or two chateaux, might be to build a couple of nights around Tours or Amboise into your itinerary, with a rental car. You could do this after your time in Paris, and return there for the flight(?) to Frankfurt.

I've rented through VRBO and they're a reputable company (owned by Homeaway), but you should use the "search" function on this board to see some of the recent discussions about a "crackdown" on short-term rentals in Paris. The city is apparently trying to keep apartment owners from renting to visitors for less than a month. Your trip is almost two years away so this issue will likely have played out one way or another by then. But consider companies (found via Google, and others will suggest them on this thread) that rent properties they actually own, instead of simply connecting you to individual owners as VRBO and Homeaway do.
