Spirits servings in Paris and elsewhere

I have noticed that spirits servings are often stated as 2cl. In oz this mean .67 oz. Seriously, are shots really that small??

Yes, standard serving for hard liquor (vodka, etc), but not always precisely measured.

Well, you will not be in America when you order so French size servings are what you should expect and not just for liquor but also for food. I used to be a bartender and shot size varies tremendously by country. The US is not even the largest. That distinction belongs to Japan.

In the UK the standard spirit measure is 25ml. Unless you ask for a double which is 50ml.

On the other hand, I gather our beer cans (at least 500ml) are bigger than the standard US one.

You say you want American size. For those of us who don't know, what size is that?

American “shots” are 1.5 ounces, Nigel. We consider that barely enough for our sipping whisky. 😉

Editing to add, wine is often sold be the deciliter as well. I usually order twice as much as a single serving in Switzerland just to get a reasonable portion to have with my meal.

It's hard to imagine that everyone doesn't know standard American shot size. After all, we're Americans and everybody caters to Americans ;-)

...oh and it's gotta be B I G to be American.
