Hey y'all,
Last year on my Honeymoon my wife and I rented a car from Sixt, we got the email from them regarding the fine and were told that the official notice would be coming in the mail.
That was May of last year, still haven't received anything and we are flying back to Paris on Monday. I've read a lot of forums regarding tickets that never came, but would just like to know if anyone that's had this issue and went back to the country had any issues when it came to getting back in with immigration? Would appreciate any and all feedback.
Thanks!
You are safe. Most countries tend to ignore tickets issue to tourists. Italy may be the exception as they are aggressive in collection. But even if you had traffic ticket outstanding, that doesn't make it to the immigration file.
Hey Frank
Thanks for the reply.
That's what all the forums have said as well.
Definitely helps to hear it again, just having some anxiety because I'd like to have a smooth trip lol.
Got a couple charges on my card in 2008 apparently related to Italian traffic authorities. Probably those dreaded ZTL zones. Still waiting for the tickets. Rented in Sicily in 2014, no problems. Planning to rent again in Naples for a stint in Puglia April 2020, not expecting problems.
If you received notice in 08 but haven't receive the official ticket notice, then you are safe. I think it was Roberto who posted that the Italian authorities only have a year to give notice of a traffic violation. After ten years, they have forgotten about you.
