Wish to see the lavender fields and may travel in early July. Is that a good time for blooms? Is it too hot? Any advice is appreciated.

The lavender was not in bloom in May for us, but the countryside was still beautiful.

Yes! The lavender should be lovely by then...
It will most likely be quite hot but not as bad as late July or August. Entirely worth it - just dress lightly and keep hydrated! Wine or water will do. :)
In my opinion it's best to see this area of France by car. Public transportation is possible but will take up a lot more of your time.
