Southeast France in August - Hoping for a lakeside vacation

I am meeting my brother in France in August and his main request is to find a lakeside (or close to lake access) house for the 7 of us. We want to relax with the kids, play in the water and ride bikes and such. The school age cousins will want plenty of play time - not necessarily tourist activities.
I'm also open to considering the Cote d'Azure area (not necessarily lakeside:-). I know that this a broad ask, but it's hard to know where to begin when there are no tourist destinations required.
Any suggestions?

Hi Tanis, we stayed in a gite in Ste. Vincent-de-Cosse (near Beynac) last July. Our gite didn't have a pool but some other properties in the village had pools. We had an enormous yard with 2 trampolines and a treehouse, though, that our kids loved. Our gite slept 6 and I'm sure space could have been found for a 7th person.

The village is also a 5 minute drive to a riverside spot where kids could swim. Kayak and canoe rentals are also available there. But I know...near a river, not a lake...

You might look around the Gorge du Verdon and Lac de Sainte-Croix. It's probably popular with French families in August.
