My husband and I will be in Villefranche July 4-6 and Flayosc 6-8. We would love to go to some open air markets any of those days. Does anyone know of a list of villages/days that are an easy drive as we do have a car? Also, any suggestions on small towns in those areas not to miss? We like to get off the beaten path, less touristy areas. Thanks! Also would like to go into Nice one evening while in Villefrance. Thinking of leaving the car parked and taking the bus. Thoughts? Quaint little cafes away from the tourist section?
Do you have a certain place to put your car while you are in Villefranche sur Mer? Let me tell you, from quite personal experience that it is no picnic to park there. You need to have it arranged if you can before you arrive. The roads between there and Nice ( a matter of a couple of km) will be crowded and parking in Nice is just as bad, especially in the high season.
The 83 bus or the 100 bus will connect you both to Nice and also Cap Ferrat and the 100 all the way via Monaco to Menton.
The last thing you are going to want around there in July is a car. I suggest to park it and take the bus or train.
As far as markets, the Big Daddie of them all is in Nice, just a couple of km from Villefranche sur Mer.
This market list looks fairly comprehensive: http://www.beyond.fr/a/markets-by-day-all.html.
Hi Traci
Here is a list of villages which should help. By the way the market in Nice is one of the best I have come across.
