South of France 7 nights

We are driving from Milan to South of France and have seven nights before heading to Paris for four nights. Thought is to stay in Nice for 3 nights, explore neighboring towns (Eze, Monaco, Antibes). Our next stop is Uzes for 3 nights, when there explore neighboring towns in Provance. My question is do we stop in St. Tropez for with the extra night? We will be there the first week in October, will it be too cold in St. Tropez to enjoy a beach club? OR do we stop somewhere else, or do 2 nights in St. Tropez and reduce Uzes to one night. We have never traveled in the south of france ......thank you for any input!

I can't answer about St. Tropez. ITOH, Uzès is not convenient for exploring Provence. As much as I really enjoy Uzès and have spent considerable time there, it's an hour to Avignon, gateway to Provence. To explore Provence, you need to stay on the east side of the Rhone. Uzès is convenient to the Point du Gard, Nîmes, the part of the Camargue on the west side of the Rhone, called Petite Camargue, Avignon.

Where are you dropping off your car? Are you aware that renting a car in one country and dropping it off in another is costly?

I had the same question as Mary Pat. I'm curious to know what the current drop off surcharge is for that.

As for St Tropez, according to historic averages, the first week of Oct sees daytime temps in the low 70s (low 20sC) with about a 50/50 chance of a sunny day. Sea temps between mid 60s to low 70s. Whether that constitutes beach weather is up to you.

Please be aware than many/most beach clubs close by mid to late September. Saint Tropez will begin to transform back to a seaside village in October. The water may still be warm but the weather can be variable in October. It still is a lovely place, minus the crowds and the big club season, but it is different. I think a few beach restaurants may still be open, but chair service may be terminated. (This is true along the other parts of the coast, as well)

I tend to agree about Uzes. It will be more convenient further south and east as a base, to hit Provence. It is also a good suggestion to take a train to Nice and pick a rental car after you leave (you can also save time by returning it in Avignon and taking the TGV 3 hours to Paris). Unless you want to meander along the Italian coast which is doable, but then drop off in Ventimiglia or San Remo and take the train into Nice.

October is too late for beach club, but can still be beach weather, and St Tropez is lovely at that time of the year. If you are tempted, I would say go for it, but just for 1 night.
And agree about Uzès - lovely, but not that convenient for a short stay in the region.

Thank you for the input...where do you suggest I stay in Provance? I will be in Nice 3 nights, St. Tropez 1; I have 3 more nights until I drop off the rental car and take a train to paris.....
