Hello! My first post here. Starting to plan our first trip to France. Thinking we will fly into Nice, rent a car and take our time driving to Paris where we will spend a few days then fly home. Have purchased Steve's France guide book, but from looking at that and watching his TV shows, food info is limited (from a real foodie's point of view). What are some good sources/books on the restaurants, markets, stores and food festivals of France? Also, I can't seem to find the English language version of the Michelin Guide for France. Does it exist? Thanks!
The Michelin Red Guide for France is a reference book of suggested hotels/restaurants all over the country. It has explanations and recommendations in French, English, German, Italian, Spanish, and Japanese. Take a closer look.
Food Blogs in English which may be of interest:
David Lebovitz
Francois Simon
Paris by Mouth
Wendy Lyn
Here is a list of all the markets in Paris.
I find the Michelin Green Guides to be the best source for regional/local information while traveling France. They include history, suggested driving tours, and festival schedules.
I like Chocolate and Zuchinni
Here's a link to a thread at LTH Forum, a foodie site in Chicago but with lots of reports for many destinations.
Watch "I'll Have What Phil's Having" and also check out Bourdain's shows on Paris.
Look for ex-pat blogs. Check out the travel sections of UK Newspapers like the Guardian.
Here's a list of outdoor food markets in Paris.
Have fun -- you could (and probably will) spend days researching this.
