Some outdoor summer events cancelled in Paris

Due to security concerns, and the Mayor's desire to keep tourists and residents safe during large outdoor gatherings this year, the following events have been cancelled:
The Champs-Elysees "no-car zone" on Sundays.
Outdoor cinemas in various locations, including the film festival at La Villette.
Basketball tournament Quai 54.

Other events have not been specifically mentioned, but it's possible they might be cancelled, so check before you go.

Paris Plage opened today, and is under heavy police surveillance. Expect to be searched thoroughly before you are allowed to enter the area.
Many city parks are still open until late at night, police are patrolling.
There are lots of people dancing - Tango, swing, etc - at the outdoor sculpture garden near Pont de Sully on the Left Bank.
The pedestrian areas included in "Paris Respire" are all open as usual.

Bonsoir Chex, it's very nice of you to take the time to provide us with "insider info" on Paris. It makes me very sad that these types of measures need to be taken, but I guess that's the world we're living in now. Paris is a wonderful city and I love it. The history, architecture, sites, beauty, and romance can't be topped. I hope that you and your family and friends stay safe.

This could seem a little depressing, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. The soldiers and police are thorough, but pleasant, and the security check doesn't take long.

The news reported that there was probably a human error which allowed the tragic events in Nice to occur.
