We'll be making this trip in October, 6 weeks from now, but the trains appear to be sold out (SNCF and Rail Europe sites tell me nothing is available, though they don't explicitly say trains are sold out). GoEuro will let me but tickets, but people on the forum seem to advise against 3rd party sellers. Am I doing something wrong? Any ideas?
Try different times just to see if you are doing it right. The entire day should not be sold out.
Check out loco2.com. it looks like trains are available. I used this website to buy train tickets for our upcoming trip.
When I look at the month calendar for October, they are showing prices for every day in October, so they must have trains. You aren't trying to make a Eurail Pass reservation are you?
Edit- Just paged through every day from Oct 15 to 27 at https://en.voyages-sncf.com/en/tgv . All trains have tickets available.
Thanks to all for the moral support — I just tried SNCF for the 20th time, and voila!, selections for booking miraculously appeared, where there once were none. Maybe it was their online glitch. Panic averted!
I was in France earlier this year, and I observed a lot of anomalies with the SNCF website. Don't know what the deal is.
Make sure that you are checking for the time you want to travel. The time defaults to the current time in France unless you change it. If you are somewhere in the middle of the US or Canada, France is 7 hours ahead of you, so if you search at dinner time you will see trains - or no trains - at 2 o'clock in the night.
Try Trainline.eu. Much easier buying process.
