My husband and I just returned from
a wonderful trip to Paris. We are active seniors. One of the joys I experienced was that whenever we were on a Metro, men and women of all ages would immediately offer their seats. I would always gracefully accept their kindness. That has never happened at home in California. My husband was always embarrassed and would continue standing.

I agree that this is much more prevalent in Europe than the states. I'm in England right now and have been offered seats on many occasions. Even by children. :-)

I have found that too. I always gratefully accept the seat even if I don't need it. I think it reinforces good manners to the folks that are giving up their seat.
