We are making a trip to France to visit the Christmas Markets the first two weeks of December this year. We will be taking several trains between cities while there including CDG to Colmar, Colmar to Basel, Colmar to Obernai and Obernai to Paris Est and several short day trips from Colmar and Obernai. We are both over 60 years of age and are considering purchasing Carte Avantage Senior Cards for each of us, presently priced at €49. The cards would allow us discounts of about 30% from regular fares and would almost immediately pay for themselves with the savings.
Has anyone used these cards and can you access the discount from the very first train reservation purchase, which for us would be from CDG Airport to Colmar?
Many, many people have the Carte senior.
Here is the price for December 1 with a card so you can compare with the price without the card. Prices will rise as the date approaches. There are variations in the time it takes and how many changes of train. All itineraries change trains in Strasbourg.
Here are the times and prices, so you can compare:
9:00 57.60
11:22 55
11:58 68.60
5:29 pm 46.60
There's little down side to buying a Carte Advantage Senior. It almost always pays for itself early on. It did on my first trip using it.
Do make sure to purchase your tickets as soon as they become available for best prices, as well as the biggest advantage of the discount card.
If I remember correctly the CA paid for itself going from CDG to Colmar. Highly recommend easy to use, we picked up at CDG.

Thanks everyone for the help!
