My booked train Paris-Auxerre tomorrow is cancelled but the SNCF app offers me train to Joigny and "carriage" from there to Auxerre. What does this mean? Route detail is as for a taxi but who pays?
If they are running any other trains during the day that do continue to Auxerre, then you can take one of those with the ticket you already have, just no guarantee of assigned seat.
At http://www.sncf.com/en/timetables-updates-traffic, they have not yet posted which trains are cancelled and are still advising people to check later. I don't know why that wouldn't be synced with their mobile app, but they have been warning ticket holders further ahead.
I don't think SNCF will reimburse you for a 30 min/ 30 km taxi ride from Joigny. But if they will, you'll have to get paperwork at the train station - such as a taxi voucher or a claim form to return to them.
Thanks, Laura. Starting my journey from Sarlat at 7am so will just have to see what's possible when I get to Paris.
Cgichard,
I've used the SNCF app for the past 3 weeks while traveling in France, but have also checked directly with SNCF staff directly, at the (various) train stations.
As Laura has mentioned above, during the train strike, you can take any other train traveling the same route as your original train tickets.
I just checked the SNCF app for your route, & it looks like there are several trains traveling that route tomorrow.
I presume your ticket was for the 13:35 train, right?
Since you'll be driving from Sarlat, you may try to make the 14:35 train that goes from Paris Bercy to Auxerre Saint-Gervais.
BTW, I've been informed, by SNCF staff, that all the trains listed on their website for tomorrow (June 16) will be running.
The trains which have been cancelled are not listed.
Hope this helps...
I bet it does mean taxi or minivan or bus.
Can you copy down here what it says?
We had that pop up a couple of weeks ago while in France, and they had substituted a bus for a train. Three days later, SNCF posted "journey not possible" for the same route so we had to change plans completely and find our own way. The SNCF app was very helpful so registering all of your journeys is worthwhile. Station personnel were very helpful, too.
"Carriage" probably means alternative transportation to Auxerre. Probably van, bus, whatever they can round up.
In the end I took a 6..07am train from Sarlat as that was the only one that offered a confirmed connection all the way to Auxerre and didn't get me here too late in the evening. Info on the SNCF app changed between 6pm and 8.30pm!
Now at my hotel but very tired.
time for a well earned rest
Thanks for reporting back. Glad you could make it work.
