I would like to visit the small villages of the Alsase region. How much time to see the small villages, enjoy the wine etc. Would you stay in Strasburg or some of the small villages?

You can spend many days in the Alsace region (with a car). I would stay in one of the villages to make your daily commute simpler.
I stayed in Obernai. Ribeauville and Riquewhir are the most central, but don't miss Colmar or Strausbourg. With Colmar and Strasbourg included, 10 days is a good length of time to enjoy the region.

Great advice above; I'd just say that ten days is on the generous side. A week is already plenty of time, the region is compact.

I agree with Balso regarding how much time to spend there. A week is plenty. We went last year arriving from Cologne to Strasbourg. We spent one night then the following afternoon took the train to Colmar. We got a car for our 4 nights there so we could explore the surrounding villages. It was a good length of time but it would have been fine to spend an additional night in Strasbourg and Colmar to make it a one week part of the trip.
