Skip-the-line tickets for Versailles without a guided tour

We want to visit Versailles without a tour guide. Can we purchase skip-the-line tickets on our own? If so, where/how? Thanks. Steve and Pam

There is something you should know about all these “skip the line” tours for sights all over the world; the only line you get to skip is the line for the ticket office. You can’t skip or get ahead at the line for security.
You don’t need a tour to skip the line for the ticket office. Just buy your ticket from the official website and you’re good to go. For Versailles the official website is https://en.chateauversailles.fr/

There is no such thing as a skip the line ticket. You buy tickets for a time slot at the Palace and then join the group for your time slot. the line should not take more than half an hour, maybe less. There is also a line for perimeter security which took about 10 minutes last time we visited. Always reserve timed tickets for major sites like Versailles, the Louvre, d'Orsay etc.
At the Louvre this will also let you use the carousel entrance which is usually less busy.

Several people have posted anecdotes about this skip the line business. Here is mine. I was in the line for those who had tickets for the Orsay. Maybe a ten or 15 minutes wait to enter. An American tourist walked to the head of the line and tried to push his way ahead of everyone saying 'I have a skip the line ticket' -- the agent at the head of the line turned him away while he argued and then he was hooted to the back of the line all the while protesting. Much laughter and ridicule ensued.
