My boyfriend and I are traveling to Chamonix in late March. We are staying in the Grand Hotel des Alpes for 3 nights and are will be doing 2 days of snowboarding. We both qualify as "expert snowboarders" and would like to explore some of the more challenging terrain, but also wouldn't mind riding on some groomed slopes and less challenging terrain. I do not think we want to spend the $300 for a guide for the Aiguille du Midi. Any suggestions on where we should ride and also the best way to get there from the hotel? Any other tips for Chamonix such as restaurant recommendations would be greatly appreciated as well!
Thanks so much!
We don't do lift assisted skiing but here are a couple of websites that are a start:

Le Grand Montets at Argentiere is the top "expert" terrain. I don't know about the local bus, but you can get there on the train in about 15 minutes.
Why don't you see if you can hook up with a few others and get that guide for the Mer de Glace run from the Aiguille du Midi. It is a special experience you won't forget. The guides know the current locations of all the crevices, so I would definitely get one. Make sure to stop at the Refuge de l'Envers des Aiguilles for lunch on the way down.
