Six Week Apartment Rental in Paris

I'm looking for an apartment to rent for 6 weeks, in the 5th, 6th or 14th arrondissements in Paris this summer. I would appreciate recommendations based on positive experiences with particular Paris rental companies.

I would like a one bedroom with windows, maybe a view of some sort (street or garden) and I need WiFi. Last year I was in a 4th floor walk up in the Marais, which I loved because it looked out over a square with "Paris sounds". I'd like to keep lodging cost for the 6 weeks under $4000.

I think that the budget might be a bit low for what you are asking for. 5 years ago (2012) I rented a studio apartment in the 4th for a month. It was in a great location and was wonderful for me as a solo, but it had no separate bedroom, no A/C, and no elevator (5th floor walk-up), and no particularly nice view, although it was on the top floor and had floor to ceiling windows on 2 sides. I'm giving all that information because, at that time, the cost was $500/week (which I considered reasonable) and that was less than anything I found in the 5th or 6th in a good location. Now if you consider adding a separate bedroom and the 5 years of inflated costs since that time, that same studio apartment would probably be closer to $600-700/week, which would be $3600-4200 for 6 weeks. I'm not sure you'll be able find what you want at your price point but I hope that you do.

Valerie, I'm a bit confused at your post. The apartment you referenced rents for $194/night for more than 7 nights. The OP mentioned 6 weeks (42 nights), that comes to about $8150. Unless those rates are negotiable, that's about double the OP's budget. I researched Vacation in Paris when I was looking for apartments for a month in Paris and they were all way over my budget.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi Nancy - Sorry. Linked the wrong unit - jet lag from flying in from Germany today...thanks for noticing it:) They do have units that meet the budget requested - they're going to be very small at that price. But here's one: http://www.vacationinparis.com/listing/343/rooftop-views-in-saint-germain-studio. It's as small as a dorm room and I can't tell about AC, which you'd want in summer.

Here's one more of theirs that fits your budget: http://www.vacationinparis.com/listing/325/authentic-paris-one-bedroom

I appreciate all of the input. Actually, I am thinking of a side-trip to Ireland the last week of my 6 in Europe (I'm taking classes in Paris for most of my stay), so I was thinking of a 5 week rental in Paris for under $4,000 -- which might be a more reasonable goal. The apartment I had last year for 6 weeks in the Marais did not have AC, TV, microwave, dishwasher or an elevator and I didn't miss any of those amenities. My priority wish list includes an atmosphere conducive to writing, windows that let light in, hopefully a view of the street and Paris noises. I also need to be closer to school in the 5th.

At your budget, I would not limit myself solely to staying in the 5th because it's close to your school. Paris has a great Metro and bus system and if you are going to be living there for 5 or 6 weeks, you'll need to use it at some point. Personally, I'd look for something in the double digit arrondissements. While I'm sure the listing the previous poster included is fine for a short stay of a week or two, for over a month, it's nicer to stay in something that has a little more space than a broom closet, even if it's not in Saint Germaine. You listed the 14th as an option. I'd focus there, or in the 10th near Canal St. Martin.

As you are now considering a week elsewhere in Europe and your nightly budget for Paris has increased a little, you could look at something like this in the 14th offered through VRBO https://www.vrbo.com/882510a or this in the 10th: https://www.vrbo.com/341481 There are other listings that are a little cheaper, but for 6 weeks, you might prefer to have a few of the amenities available to you like a washing machine or air conditioning in the apartment.
