Planning a trip to Aix-en-Provence, Nice and places in between. Considering a side trip to Corsica. Perhaps fewer tourists, quaint villages, beautiful sights and unique experiences. From experience there, would one recommend Corsica and does it set itself apart enough from the mainland to merit a visit?
Yes there are quaint villages and beautiful sights in Corsica. But Corsica is a very large island that deserves a week's stay,
It is 6 hours by ferry from the mainland in the best case scenario.
So a "side trip" to Corsica would be worth it only if you plan to stay at least 4 nights and rent a car
A few years back I visited both Sardinia and Corsica. Corsica is well worth a visit of 3-4 days minimum and a rental car is necessary. During season, it is crowded so I would only visit off-season to avoid a hoard of tourists.
