Sicily to Paris

We are a family of 4 (2 older teens) and we are trying to travel from Catania, Sicily to Paris. We want to go at the end of May (Memorial Day weekend) for 4 days. Leave Thursday night return Monday. Prices I am finding are about $800 roundtrip for all of us. I checked from Catania to Rome then Rome to Paris and that's about $680 if we stay the night in Rome and fly out early the next day. Is this the most feasible? Is there any other way? I'm not sure how much tickets average for this time of year. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!
