What is the best method to get from CDG to a Rue Cler hotel? I have seen round trip private car shuttle for around $140 (round trip) for 2. Seems reasonable...ideas???
How about the official fixed taxi rate of up to 4 people for 55 EUR, which is about $65 US. I think that is less than half what you were quoted.
The $140 quote is for a round trip. Even so, I see no reason to arrange a shuttle. I'd just take a taxi from the official line, being sure to go to the official line. Ignore anyone who approaches your or offers you a ride. Have your address written on a piece of paper with the postal code for the driver.
Just curious, is the RER train complicated, or a hassle?
Using the RER B is easy but reaching rue Cler from CDG is not. I find the rue Cler area somewhat isolated from where tourists typically go and public transportation is limited. If you do want to use the RER/métro, take the RER B to Châtelet/les Halls, transition to métro 1 until Concorde (it is a bit of a walk), connect to métro 8 and exit Ecole Militaire. The transportation portion takes about 1 hour, not including the walk from Ecole Militaire to your hotel. Cost is 10.30€.
I recommend a taxi at 55€ from the official taxi queue.
Thanks Tocard for your thoughts. Makes sense. A lot of transferring and walking for someone who is likely jet-lagged.

When we visited recently and stayed in the Rue Cler area, we took Le Bus Direct to one block from our hotel. It only makes three stops before that stop. The price is 17 euros one way and 30 euros round trip. You catch it just outside the doors at CDG near baggage claim. Worked great for us.
