Shuttle to the Paris Airport

We just returned from Paris. We were staying in an apartment in the Marais and were trying to figure out how to get to the airport in an efficient manner. We discovered one of the tour companies runs a shuttle and they will pick you up wherever you're staying and let you off at the airport. It cost us 49 euros for the two of us. You share the van, but what a bargain in my opinion and it really simplified our lives. We did not know about this when we arrived, and between the bus into the city and a taxi to our apartment (which the driver had trouble finding), we probably spent at least 49 euro and it was a much bigger hassle.

John,
Do you know the name of the tour company whose shuttle you took?
Thanks

We booked ours through Viator.com - (the tour consolidator ) also offers airport shuttles.
We used them for our arrival and departure - PERFECT.

You might want to post your article in "Tips & Trip Reports" in another section of this web page so more folks will get a chance to see it. Good advice.

I think it was Viator. It worked out very well.

50 Euros is pretty close what a cab would cost from there to the airport -- a private cab that doesn't pick up and drop all over town and is likely to actually show up. Shuttles in Paris have a reputation of being less reliable than shuttles; if there driver doesn't show up for work, they shrug; if they don't pick you up, they shrug and keep the money.

If you were saving huge bucks doing this, then it might make sense -- but 50 Euro for two people is absurd for a shared shuttle. For example. We took a cab from CDG to our apartment in Montmartre last week. It cost 45 Euro door to door with just the two of us and thus no others to drop off. A more central location is likely to be closer to 50-55 and might even go as high as 60, but the savings are just not that great for an inferior product. We will be booking a G7 cab for the return trip at the end of the month; we have done this half a dozen times and the cab has always been there a few minutes early every time.

And a word about middlemen jobbers like Viator for services. They don't provide services, they contract with others who do and then add their fee, so they are not necessarily there if you have problems with the service and they are expensive.

e.g. We were in St. Petersburg last week and wanted a tour to the Catherine Palace because it was out of town and as olds we didn't want to hassle with the complicated public transport (we did things in town on our own) Viator quoted us $250 for the two of us to join a bus tour. I then contacted a group called Tours by Locals and had my own private driver for just my husband and me for $170. We didn't get herded about with tourists who might have less interest and move faster; our guide was knowledgeable and helped us navigate to avoid the large groups; he knew a good place for lunch before we headed back and it was door to door service (with the other tour we had to meet at a hotel). We had 5+ hours of guidance, transport and personal attention for our money. Almost always you do better if you can book with the service provider and not a middleman -- this is especially true if there are any problems.

John,

A shared shuttle is also the method I normally use to get from Paris to the airport. The last one I took was ultra-efficienct and didn't waste any time getting to the various hotels where he picked up passengers (he probably had it all mapped on a GPS). I always ask the hotel to book that the day prior to travel, and so far haven't had any problems with that. I don't remember what I paid, but as I recall it was only about €25-30 (for one person).

One person can save with a shuttle -- but if you have two or more then it costs about the same as a cab for less efficient service. Paris is not a shuttle culture and shuttles are rarely a better deal than a cab, one of the airport buses, or the train.
