We wish to go from Bayeux to Vernon on a Tuesday in early May. Are there shuttles (like CK Shuttle in Cesky Krumlov) or shared rides available? We have looked at trains, but it looks like you go into Paris, only to come right back out, and takes 3 hours.
Meg, I'm sure you could hire a cab, if money is no object.
This is like getting from some random town in Illinois to another one that is 120 miles away.
The most efficient way to see Vernon would probably be (1) as part of a swing though Normandy with a car (many great stops possible) or (2) separately as a day trip from Paris (less than an hour each way by train)
The fastest route does take around three hours, but you don't go through Paris. The route is Bayeux-Caen-Rouen-Vernon.
You would pay a small fortune to hire a private driver and you would save less than an hour.
If you are using the official train site http://en.voyages-sncf.com/en/ you can get a better idea of the routes by unclicking the Direct Trains box at top right of the page. You'll still have to sort through the schedule to find the regional TER trains. However there aren't many choices via Rouen and may not provide much time to visit Giverny. Counting in time to change trains it can be almost as fast, with little difference in price, to take a fast train back to St-Lazare.
Thanks to you all. We will consider the train and enjoy the views!
