We will be traveling to Europe in two weeks and finishing up our trip with two days in Paris. Wanting to leave nothing to chance, I am interested in pre-arranging our shuttle to CDG at the end of our time in Paris. A Google search shows a variety of options. Can anyone recommend a company that you have used and found to be reliable and reasonable?
I used this company last Oct,http://www.paris-shuttle.com
Call G7 Taxi the night before. They have an English speaking dispatcher. They are very reliable. When I left Paris last May, I booked three taxis with them for our group and each one was on time. There will be some money on the meter when they arrive as they charge from the time they are dispatched, but it usually isn't very much. You do need to be at the curb when they arrive. The phone number for the English operator is 01 41 27 66 99 - or you can ask your hotel to call for you.
We had our hotel (Jeanne d'arc) book the airport shuttle. Price was competitive and dependable.
Thanks very much for your suggestions. I feel better having some good options.
Last trip when we checked into our hotel we were asked if our was trip concluding or beginning. When we told them we would be returning to the U.S. They told us there was a scheduled RER strike for our check-out day and they suggested we have them schedule a taxi right then if we were planning on taking the RER or a taxi. Boy were we glad we followed their advice...not only the RER strike but it was raining! Taxi driver said cabs were already booked well into the day and along with the rain, we would have been up the creek - and this was at 6 am!
Colleen, Since we will only be in Paris two days I am concerned about having enough lead time to make arrangements. I think I'll email our Paris hotel (Duquesne Eiffel) and see what they suggest. Thanks!
Your hotel should be able to arrange a shared shuttle or taxi a day ahead of your departure. Just let the hotel staff knoiw when you check in and they should be able to accommodate you. Shared shuttles are cheaper but can take longer if you're the first pick up.
Thanks, Edgar. That should save us some money.
I would never book a shuttle TO the airport -- they are sometimes unreliable and if you get a shared shuttle you could well be spending an hour trolling around town for the various riders. You need to be at the airport 3 hours ahead of the flight. Book a taxi the day before on the G7 English line; it is often not possible to get a taxi for the airport the morning of. Of course adapt if there are taxi strikes, train issues etc. Paris does not have a shuttle culture -- if there driver doesn't show up for work, they are likely to just cancel the run. A fair number of people have reported in travel groups of pre paid shuttles that didn't show and claimed 'we were there and you weren't' and not even given the money back. This is a high stakes trip. Paris is not the US. A taxi is the most reliable choice if you don't want to take the train or the timing doesn't work for that.
I have used Asvoiturage.com twice traveling to and from CDG and have had excellent service. Their drivers speak English ( not always well) but certainly well enough to communicate with you. An antidote: On my last trip returning home to Chicago, I allowed myself the usual 4 hours, ( and I needed it getting through their exiting country customs line - an hour for sure) as I hate to be nervous! As we were approaching the airport around 8:15 a.m. on a Thursday morning, we could see a LONG line of cars and taxi's heading into CDG. Suddenly my driver veered off onto a service road, did a few roundabouts and Voila I was at my terminal from a different route in 5 minutes. I know I would have been in that long line for 20-30 minutes before being able to disembark at my terminal, if we had done what all the other cars and TAXIS were doing. Needless to say, I gave a fine tip to the driver and sent a thank you to the company for their driver's ingenuity. Taxi's are fine and reliable, but I have become accustomed to this private shuttle service. I do not like shared shuttles. As mentioned by others, you do not know where you are in the line of pick-ups and you can easily waste 30-40 minutes just picking up others. SO, use a taxi or a private shuttle.
As Carolyn and Janet say, Taxi's G7 English line worked perfectly for us. Called the night before, Taxi was there at 0655. Be at the curb when the Taxi pulls up! Cost was about 55 euro from the Marais on a Sunday.
