Show/cabaret in Paris

I am visiting Paris in the fall, and am hoping to have a show/cabaret experience while I'm there. I first looked into moulin rouge, but have heard that it is not worth the money. I love music/dancing/shows and found the idea of sipping champagne and watching a performance appealing. Any alternative suggestions? Cabarets, ballets, musicals, jazz clubs, etc...

We took a tour of the Paris opera garnier one afternoon and inquired about seeing an opera . We bought tickets for 25 euro and watched an evening opera with English subtitles on a digital screen above the stage , enjoyable evening at a historical opera house

It's not technically a show or cabaret, but I thoroughly enjoyed dinner at Our Ancestors the Gauls (Nos Ancetres Les Gaulois). You share a table with other guests (including locals!) in a pre-Roman atmosphere. Two or three roaming guitarists lead rousing songs in French and sometimes English. The set menu includes traditional seasonal fare with unlimited wine, cheese, and bread. Lots of fun!

A few years ago, a friend and I went to the Paradis Latin cabaret show in the Latin Quarter. It included a lovely dinner, champagne, and the show (I think they also have a non-dinner option). It is expensive, especially if you order tix thru one of the consolidators such as Viator, and I really debated about going b/c of the cost. But I really enjoyed it and am glad I had this typically Parisian experience!

Or you could check the schedule at the Opera Garnier or the "new" Opera house and see if there's anything playing during your vacation that you'd enjoy.
