Should we book our shuttle bus from Pontorson station to Mont Saint Michel in advance?

Hi,
We will be visiting France in August of this year.
We will be taking the train from Bayeux to Pontorson train station and then taking a shuttle bus from Pontorson to Mont Saint Michel and Mont Saint Michel to Pontorson.
Q1: Should we book our shuttle bus from Pontorson to Mont Saint Michel and vice versa in advance? Where can we book such ticket? How can find about the schedule for bus shuttle service?
Q2: When should we go to Mont Saint Michel? When is the best time of the day to see it? When should we reach the Mont Saint Michel? How long should we stay in the Mont Saint Michel? What time of the day is Mont Saint Michel the busiest? We are hoping to see it for the whole day.

You do not need to book the Pontorson-MSM ticket in advance (not even sure it is possible). You should expect to stay at least 2.5 hours from the bus stop (a bit more if you want to visit the abbey church, or if you walk at a slow pace).
Better to be there early in the morning if you can.

Are you returning to Bayeux this evening?
If so there are easier ways to get to MSM

Churchill Hotel runs a shuttle- 65€- RT anyone can book do not need to be staying at this hotel

The best least crowded times to be at MSM are early am and late pm, most recommend an overnight stay to accomplish this- but if you only have a day then a day trip will have to do.
