should I buy tickets to Pont du Gar?

When I searched google for Pont du Gard, it offered me to buy tickets. But when I googled, some suggested that I don't need a ticket.

Parking is included in the ticket and I will have a car and I need safe place to park.

I don't know if we are going to visit Museum but we want to go to second level (I think).

Can you please share your experience?

Merci

We are going this Friday (August 16th). I should get parking if I buy tickets at counter. Right?

A word to the wise from someone who has been there.

In 1995 I took my family to Europe and stopped at Pont du Gard. We rented a motor home and we stayed at a campground. Somehow, in looking for the campground, I wound up on the wrong side of the river from the campground. Not knowing that it was prohibited, I drove the motor home OVER the river on the lower level of the aqueduct. It was only when I arrived on the campground side that I realized that this was a big NO-NO. Much yelling ensued, and my kids shrunk down in their seats as I profusely apologized to the angry Frenchman who was yelling.

Long story short, the day got better after that, but there were no fees to visit the monument back then.

So, good luck with the ticket purchase and remember, DON'T DRIVE OVER the river on the aqueduct.

Parking is included in the ticket. We went early on a day in early June and walked right in. It is a huge site, with lots of parking, but I still recommend getting there early.

Edited to add: The museum is great. You could spend hours seeing it all, or just focus on a few areas of interest. It's also nice and cool.

You need a ticket and parking is included with that ticket. For me, the Museum was even more impressive than the actual site, but I am a big museum guy. There are lots of walking trails in the area and the sites looking at the bridge are much more impressive than the views from the bridge. We spent about an hour and a half walking the trails and seeing it from different angles and then a couple more hours in the museum.

Since '95 the Pont du Gard area was entirely and very successfully redone so there's definitely no risk of accidentally driving across! You can't even park within sight of the aqueduct anymore - making the approach even more dramatic, as it suddenly looms into view (especially coming from the right bank, which is opposite the museum).

We were just there in June and did the guided tour which I bought at the ticket office. But we had general admission tickets that I bought online so that was an add-on. I was under the impression that you went to the top of the aqueduct. But that is no longer allowed because of damage. Since I had the guided tour I wasn’t that impressed with it. I only bought it because I thought we could go to the top. Just a regular ticket will suit you fine. As others have said the museum is quite nice. And if it’s hot outside it has air-conditioning. I do recommend getting there early because it does become quite crowded. And you will find easier parking as well. When you exit you have a code that you put in the parking machine and take a swimsuit if you want to take a dip in the river. They have a nice café on the other side from where the ticket office is. The parking lot is very safe.

I bought tickets before going there. I got an email with tickets and it has a bar code to open the gate to the parking lot. Ticket also admits you to the museum and it's fantastic. Big plus was it was air conditioned plus toilets.

Person who helped us also gave us a paper ticket to exit the parking lot.

Closing the thread.
