Short term Paris transit questions

I am only going to be in Paris for about 7 hours during my trip. I arrive on the Eurostar at Gare du Nord at about 3:45 PM and am leaving at about 10:45 PM that same night from Gare Du Austerlitz. I was thinking of taking either the Metro or RER B to view the Notre Dame Cathedral from the outside and then continue on the RER C to Austerlitz. Does this make any sense? Also does anyone have a recommendation for a fairly inexpensive restaurant somewhere near either train station? Thanks

You'll have plenty of time to do all that and more, if you want to - is there anything else you want to see in Paris?

I don't have any specific restaurant recommendations, but just to the south of Notre Dame is the Latin Quarter, which is full of restaurants in various price ranges.
