Shipping a chair from Paris to Delaware

My wife and I have ordered a chair from a shop in Paris and would like to ship it to our home in Delaware. Time is not of the essence. Our French language skills are not great.
Any advice as to where we might get assistance will be appreciated!

Have you asked the shop if they will ship it for you or recommend a shipper? If not, you may want to enquire with FedEx and DHL or the French post office. Lastly, a company called Send My Bag may be able to help you.

As Mary said, have you asked the shop to ship the item? If they ship it for, it will not be subject to VAT so it will be a little cheaper. I have bought large items from stores in Paris and had them shipped home and each time, the store arranged the shipment. And your "not great" French language skills presumably will not matter since they were good enough for you to be able to complete a transaction with this seller, we know that this seller is able to understand you and what you want.

Thank you for your helpful posts.
Unfortunately, the shop will not arrange for shipping of the chair.
I need to speak with a shipping company (English-friendly) in person and arrange for shipping myself.
Any additional suggestions will be appreciated.
Merci!

We bought an expensive couch in Paris and had it shipped to our home in Chicago -- the fact that we didn't pay VAT tax paid for the shipping cost until it got to Chicago -- the cost IN Chicago once it reached the 'Port of Chicago' was as much as the cost from Paris to Chicago. So we refused that part of the shipping and arranged for our own pick up and delivery; there are services that do that sort of thing. Note if it is a high value item you will also pay local taxes and customs on it. Our final cost was slightly less than if we had bought the same item in Chicago.

The beauty of having the store do it is that you essentially get ALL your vat tax instead of only about half, if you take things with you. We bought an antique Japanese vase in Paris this spring and once again, the vat paid for the shipping.

There is a Mail Boxes Etc. on Rue de la Boetie near the Hotel Park Lane Paris and they can help. They offer pick up or you can bring them your chair. There are other MBE locations in Paris but I know from experience that this one is good. They do package items. I’m not sure that they do chairs but you can call and ask.
Edit: I just walked by them and there is a woman there working now (Thursday at 3:45 in France) whose English is perfect. The number is 33-1-42-94-1464. Good luck.

Great that they have MBE's there. A story from the past. I was in Barcelona, 24 years ago and MBEs had not arrived at this point. I went to a large department store and tried to buy bubble wrap without knowing the word. Eventually the combination of words: plastico con gas did the trick.
