September trip in Chartres

I am planning to arrive on a Friday in Paris and have to be in Chartres by Sunday evening. Can you suggest a short trip from Paris (or Chartres) that I can enjoy Friday and Saturday before needing to be in Chartres by Sunday evening? I would be using the train system and not driving. Open to wine tasting, art, gardens, museums, but have not been outside Paris much. Thanks!

Thanks, Alexander, Le Château de Maintenon is on my Chartres itinerary. I should have mentioned that once I am in Chartres, I will be there about a week in a class (which includes a visit to that Château).

Hi, I was in that area in 2019 and actually thinking about revisiting some of it this September if my tentative Italian plans seem to be a risk.

Chartres - amazing cathedral (take the tour) & light show in town at night.

A little over an hour by train is Le Mans. Walk through the lanes of the medieval section. I took lots of photos here. Also the Roman wall nearby has interesting designs in the brick.

Take the train 30 minutes longer to reach Angers. The huge fortress is outstanding! I spent most of a day here exploring it. It also contains the medieval Revelation Apocalypse tapestries.

Both Le Mans & Angers have handy tram service from the train station to the highlights.
