September in France

We’d like advice for a possible 5-6 week stay in a village or town in France to take classes [art and cooking) in the fall of 2023.

Don’t really know how to start the search. We’ve spent time in Paris and love the overload of museums, but we’re now into “slow travel.” Will be grateful for any ideas.

Do you really mean the fall of 2022? Because, well we are in December 2022. I am going to assume that you mean 2023. Do you want English speaking classes? Maybe take a look at https://kitchen-at-camont.com/ or google Susan Herrmann Loomis and see if she is still offering classes in Normandy and look for place near her. If I was doing this, I would go to Provence and stay in Saint Remy or Aix-en-Provence and take art classes and cooking classes there. There is at least one place that offers great classes in Saint Remy. Or maybe I would go to Dijon. I've taken three cooking classes in the Bourgogne region and all were exceptional. So many choices. You may want to start by researching a regional cuisine that you want to explore or thinking about the type of weather you want or thinking about what techniques you want to master and go from there.

I'd second Aix where there are several chefs offering cooking classes - you might want to mix it up a bit. We took a class from Mathilde at L'Atelier Cuisine who took us on a tour of the market, showed us what to look for, and welcomed us to her kitchen to cook what she had purchased. It was a simple meal, but enjoyable and easy enough to replicate at home. She also had restaurant recommendations. Aix is also a good base for exploring the Luberon.
