September France Recommendations?

We are planning a trip to the South of France area in September 2025. We want to find a home base with a kitchen and nearby markets, wine, etc. I'd like to see Grasse if that's the best time of year! We are food folks and want a simple trip where we take day excursions, and gather from markets and cook or eat out. Leisure rather than hurry, hurry. So grateful for all thoughts and recommendations. Thank you!

I don't have specific recommendations for where to base yourselves. For how long, how many people? The area is large and perhaps more details of your expectations would help. Re lodgings, however, when you narrow down an area, we always use gites-de-france for lodgings. The have been around longer than AirBandB and are excellent for reliability and variety. we have booked through them for short stays and stays up to 10-14 days.
Bonne chance!

Don't be shy about using Airbnb. It's generally reliable especially if you limit your contacts to well-reviewed hosts. Gîtes de France is fine as well, but it doesn't have a corner on the market any longer.

Grasse is worth a visit. I wouldn't say it's worth days there, but in combination with other points of interest it's certainly worth a stop.

Southern France can be warm in September. Be prepared for heat.

Thank you, Judy. You're right it was a bit vague. I am thinking of flying into Paris. I've been there a few times, my husband has not. We were originally thinking Andalusia, but then I realized he hasn't seen Paris. I thought perhaps we take a train to Provence find a place to stay there and then take side trips. Length of trip 8 days.
