September 10-18 (Last two nights in Paris)

So, I am trying to create an itinerary for eight 7 nights. I am flying from London so there will be no issues with jetlag. Essentially I have 5 nights outside of Paris. 2 days is good for Paris. I've been there 3 times already and am stopping by to visit a friend before heading back to the US. I'm weighing two options: 1) 5 nights in Normandy. I haven't visited this region of France and would love to see the D-Day beaches and Mont St. Michel. 2) I am also considering 4 nights in Berlin, flying to Paris for 3 day and day tripping to Chartres for the extra day in Paris. I haven't been to Germany yet so this seemed like an interesting idea. I would just catch a flight to Paris from there. Would 5 nights be enough for Normandy?

Option 1)
Day 1: Land in Paris - Train to Rouen
Day 2: Rouen
Day 3: D-Day Beaches
Day 4: Bayeux
Day 5: Mont St. Michel
Day 6-8: Paris

Option 2)
Days 1-4: Berlin
5-8: Paris & Chartres

Yes, I would say that 5 days would be very adequate for Normandy. We did 3 nights in Honfleur, 1 night in Bayeux, and 1 night at St. Mt. Michel and it was more than adequate for what you have planned, plus we saw the Bayeux Tapestry and spent a couple of days driving the cheese and cadre routes.

I agree with Carolyn. We did 5 nights/4 days in Bayeux: 1 tapestry/cathedral, 2 D-Day beaches, 1 rent a car and drive to Honfleur and back. On the same trip we visited Berlin and found it a very interesting city. I don't think you can go wrong either way.

Both options are very doable. Just depends on figuring out your priority.

If you choose option #2, I would in this case suggest flying back from Berlin to Paris. If it were two weeks or more, then I would take the night/day train, Berlin to Paris, which also can be done by tailoring the routes.

Are you planning to stay in Rouen for nights 3/4/5? Or perhaps Bayeux? IF you are going to stay in Bayeux for the DDay beaches, I would flip days 3 and 4. I'd travel to Bayeux on Day 3, do Bayeux that afternoon, then that sets you up for maybe a DDay tour on Day 4 if you decide to go that route. I've done 2 different full day tours in the area and learned so much from them. If you choose not to do a tour you still have the full day instead of having to drive a longer distance to get to the DDay beaches.

Distance-wise, Rouen to say...Omaha Beach... is about 110 miles, Bayeux is under 13 + miles.
